About this deal

In an enclosure, the hottest air will rise to the top, and the coolest air will sit at the bottom. The coolest air will be about the same temperature as the room where the vivarium is located. So logically, there should be ventilation near the top of the enclosure, and near the bottom. The hot air will escape out of the top and be replaced by the air that comes in through the bottom vent. In fact, one full side of screen will often provide too much air exchange for a rainforest vivarium. Vivarium Layout: Assess the vivarium's design and layout to determine the optimal placement of misting nozzles and tubing. Ensure that the misting coverage is even and reaches all necessary areas. Even with automated misting, I will still sometimes hand mist or water certain areas of a vivarium, though infrequently. Potential for Excessive Moisture: Foggers have the potential to create excess moisture, leading to high humidity levels if not properly regulated. This can result in issues such as mold growth or respiratory problems for the inhabitants.

For example, enclosures that are built without very much screen may not provide enough air exchange. In such cases, a fan may help provide adequate fresh air for your pets and plants. Similarly, if you must use a high-powered heat source for some reason, a fan may help you maintain appropriate temperatures. Ventilation: Adequate ventilation is crucial for maintaining air circulation and preventing stagnant air in the vivarium. Proper airflow helps control humidity levels and prevents the growth of mold or harmful bacteria. Consider providing enough ventilation through vents, partially covered screen lids, or fans while ensuring that it does not excessively dry out the enclosure. To achieve the correct temperature, we recommend setting up a heat bulb at one end of the enclosure. For safety, you must ensure that your reptile is unable to touch the heat source, as this can of course lead to serious burns and injuries. You can prevent this from happening with the help of a protective heat guard. Heating: Heating elements can affect humidity levels in a vivarium. Heating devices like heat lamps or heating pads can increase evaporation, leading to a decrease in humidity. To maintain an optimal balance, consider using thermostats or humidity controllers to regulate both temperature and humidity levels.Usually, it is preferable to keep the filter outside of the enclosure. Flexible tubes can then be used to transport the water to and from the enclosure. This will facilitate maintenance and make it easier to troubleshoot problems. However, clever keepers can often devise ways to hide a small filtration unit inside well-planted vivaria. Snakes and lizards living in habitats with excessive ventilation will often experience poor sheds. This occurs because the habitat humidity will drop in response to high levels of air exchange. For problem-free sheds, most rainforest-dwelling snakes require high humidity levels. Reptiles and Amphibians Showing Signs of Dehydration It will take some practice to learn how much water your pet requires, so watch closely to see when drinking behavior ceases. If environmentally friendliness is important to you, a Vivexotic vivarium is a good choice. Each vivarium is made from timber that’s sourced from recycled sources or FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) sustainable forests. Toughened glass Compatibility: Consider the size of the misting system and its water reservoir with the vivarium's size, species, and specific humidity requirements. If you have to refill the water reservoir every few days, it makes sense to get a larger reservoir.

But it isn’t simply good enough to raise the humidity in the habitat. You must raise it to an appropriate range. Some animals – particularly those who dwell on the damp rainforest floor or forests at high altitude, which are almost always soaked – require very high humidity levels that approach the saturation point. Mimics Natural Environment: The fog created by foggers replicates the misty conditions found in certain habitats, creating a more realistic and comfortable environment for the vivarium inhabitants. Ventilation will also help manage humidity. Fans and vents will keep the glass from fogging up and prevent the growth of mold. One full side of screen (whether the screened wall is placed on top of the enclosure or on one of the sides) will typically provide more than enough air exchange for most commonly kept pets. However, a few species – including, most notably, true chameleons – will require more air exchange than this.Again, we need to look at size and ventilation. Really, the only wooden vivarium we could recommend for the commonly kept species of chameleon (panther and Yemen, or veiled) is the VivExotic Large Deep Arboreal. Coming in at 115cm width, an impressive 61cm depth and a 91.5cm height (45 x 24 x 36”) with large vents specifically designed to make installing equipment easier, this is a great base for your chameleon’s habitat.
