The player to the left of the dealer starts the game by matching the discard pile card with a card from their hand, either by color, number, or symbol. For example, if the discard pile card is a yellow 5, the player can play any yellow card, any 5 card, or any wild card.
If you do not have a card that matches one of the required criteria, you will take the top card from the Discard Pile. If this new card matches one of the criteria, you can play it immediately. Otherwise you will add the card to your hand. If the player has no matching card, they must press the button on the Dilophosaurus shooter. The shooter may or may not launch cards at them. If it does, they must add those cards to their hand. If it does not, they can play any card in their hand. Many variations from standard gameplay exist, such as Elimination Uno, Speed Uno and Pirate Uno. When you have a card that can be played, you can choose not to play it and draw a new card. This new card will be the only card that you can play on your turn though. There is one catch to Wild Draw Four cards though. You can only play the card if you have no other cards in your hand that match the color of the Discard Pile. Wild cards do count as matching the color of the Discard pile. When you play this card, you force the next player to draw 2 cards from the Draw pile and miss their turn. This card can only be played to match another Draw Two, or another card with the same color. If turned up at the start of play, the first player will have to draw 2 cards and get skipped.
